Before I created the Healed collection - I grew up in a devout Catholic home, desiring to love Jesus and to follow Him. But in 2018 I experienced what I call my “Tomb Year”.
A heartbreak in college took me to the edge of years of hidden resentment and anger towards God and I fell into a deep depression where I almost left the Church. Where was God in my hurt? Was I allowed to feel mad when God had given me so much? Why was I such a mess?
But in the midst of my depression, the Lord met me through therapy, intercessory prayer from others, and the sacraments. Since then, I’ve allowed Jesus to take me through layer after layer of healing.
Today, I’m experiencing more freedom than I ever thought possible! The intimacy of being with the crucified and resurrected Lord gives me the foundation to live a life of joy, peace, and adventure!
Throughout my healing journey, I’ve encountered others walking this same “road to Calvary” and discovered a bounty of imagery, devotions, and Gospel stories all pointing to Jesus’ desire to bring life into our wounds.

About Mattie
At a young age, Mattie wanted nothing more than to go to Narnia after watching the Disney movie in 2010. Though this was an impossible dream, drawing and writing became the closest portal to these magical worlds. Mattie honed her storytelling craft by earning degrees in Illustration and Film from the University of Kansas.
Though she does not limit herself to only painting religious works, they seem to pour out of her identity as a beloved daughter of God.
Mattie currently lives in Kansas City accepting a wide variety of commissions including Christian art, murals, and illustrated books. She hopes that with every piece she finishes, her clients will sense a larger story flowing under their lives and dig deeper to discover the infinite God who loves them more than they could ever hope for.
